A study of Instagram followers across the 2024-25 Scottish Premiership has ranked the division’s most followed footballers and estimated how much they could earn from a single sponsored post, based on an industry-standard rate of 10 US dollars per 1,000 followers.
The research, compiled by BonusCodeBets.co.uk, examined the accounts of more than 200 players from clubs competing in the current Scottish top flight as of 22 August 2024.
Schmeichel leads the pack
Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel was found to be the most followed player in the league, with just over 1.06 million Instagram followers. Based on the analysis, he could command more than £8,000 for a single sponsored post, equivalent to roughly €9,500 or $10,600.
Rangers’ Ianis Hagi sits in second place with 442,729 followers, translating to potential earnings of around £3,374 per post. The report notes that should Hagi leave the club amid ongoing transfer speculation, teammate Jack Butland, with 381,057 followers, would move into second position.
Other Rangers players featuring prominently include Ridvan Yilmaz, James Tavernier, Dujon Sterling, Ben Davies, Leon Balogun and Danilo, while Celtic’s list also includes Kyogo Furuhashi, Luis Palma, Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Matt O’Riley, rounding out the top 15 most followed players in the league.
Clubs compared
Looking at combined club followings, Celtic FC leads with 3.28 million Instagram followers across its squad, narrowly ahead of Rangers FC with 3.163 million.
According to the report’s methodology, players without a public or existing Instagram account were recorded as having zero followers, and earnings estimates were calculated using the standard rate of $10 per 1,000 followers before conversion into other currencies.
