Apex Group names Azeem Bashir as Group Chief Information Security Officer
Financial services provider Apex Group has appointed Azeem Bashir to lead its enterprise-wide cybersecurity strategy, effective 4 June 2025.
Apex Group has appointed Azeem Bashir as its new Group Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), the company announced on 4 June 2025 from London.
Bashir brings more than 25 years of cybersecurity experience across sectors including investment and retail banking, crypto, tokenisation, blockchain, AI, oil and gas, critical national infrastructure, government and energy. He has previously advised regulatory and governmental bodies internationally, managed responses to major cyber incidents, and led transformation initiatives across the EMEA and APAC regions.
Remit and focus areas
In his new role, Bashir will be responsible for strengthening Apex Group’s cybersecurity approach across four core areas: threat identification and incident response; development of security policies and controls; technology governance, including chairing the Technology Risk Forum and overseeing global risk assessments; and technology assurance through IT audits and due diligence.
Commenting on his appointment, Bashir said he was drawn to Apex Group due to a shared emphasis on integrity, trust and innovation. He said the evolving threat landscape requires organisations to move towards a risk-based, threat intelligence-led and secure-by-design approach, arguing that security should be treated as a core design principle rather than an afterthought.
Marie Measures, Chief Digital Information Officer at Apex Group, said Bashir’s experience and forward-looking approach to cybersecurity would support the company’s continued global growth. She said his leadership would be central to strengthening the firm’s cyber resilience, protecting its infrastructure, and reinforcing client trust as digital dependency and cyber threats continue to increase.
