Star Sports to Lift Prize Money by 20% at Star Pelaw Greyhound Track

Star Sports has confirmed that prize money at Star Pelaw, its greyhound track in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, will rise by around 20% across all existing graded races once the venue’s sale transfer to the bookmaker is complete.

Under the new structure, Grade A1 races will offer £450 in total prize money, with £150 going to the winner, while A2 races will pay out £440 overall and £140 to the winning greyhound. At the lower end of the grading scale, A8 races will carry a total pot of £305, including a £105 prize for the winner.

Extra Race Meeting Added

Alongside the prize money increase, an additional race meeting will be added to the SIS broadcast schedule, giving greyhound racing fans a full weekend of action. SIS, which takes over broadcasting duties from ARC, will air racing from Star Pelaw every Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening.

Star Pelaw will also stage a Boxing Day meeting, with a further fixture potentially planned for New Year’s Day.

Commitment to the Track

Kim Sanzone, Head of Greyhound Racing Operations at Star Sports, said the increase in prize money reflects the company’s commitment to the track and to the trainers and owners who support it. Sanzone added that further initiatives and incentives are expected as the company progresses with its ownership of the venue.

Those interested in joining the Star Pelaw team as a trainer or staff member have been directed to contact Racing Manager Dave Gray via email.
